How to Choose a Doctor Blade
Source:ZS Machinery Time:2016-08-16 Click:925 Times
A doctor blade looks like a trivial part, but on a rotary printing machine it decides how clean the print is.
Blade material. Steel gives the longest life and the cleanest wipe, but can wear the screen. Plastic and composite blades are gentler on the screen and are often used for fine work.
Thickness and edge profile. Thinner blades wipe more cleanly but flex more. The edge angle affects how much paste is left on the screen.
Paste characteristics. Thick paste needs a stiffer blade; thin paste needs a finer, more flexible edge.
Screen type. The blade must match the screen's mesh and coating, or it will either leave paste behind or wear the screen out early.
Machine geometry. Blade angle and pressure have to be adjustable on the machine. The same blade behaves differently at different angles.
Buy blades from a supplier who can advise on the combination rather than just sell a box.
