The drum is the heart of a sublimation transfer machine, and every operation on it has to be treated as precision work.

Check concentricity before you start. An out-of-round drum cannot be corrected later.
Keep the surface clean. Swarf or grit left on the surface during work will be pressed into the finish.
Control the cut evenly. Uneven cuts create high spots, and a high spot prints as a mark on every revolution.
Polish in stages. Skip a grade and the surface will not be fine enough for even transfer.
Inspect under light before assembly. A surface that looks acceptable in daylight can still show marks once the machine is running at temperature.

The cost of getting this wrong is not a scrapped drum – it is thousands of metres of fabric with a repeating mark on it.
