Equipment Needed for a Heat Transfer Line

A working sublimation transfer line needs five things.
- A sublimation printer. Industrial Epson-head printers using disperse sublimation ink, printing onto transfer paper.
- Transfer paper. The right grade matters. Too light and it cockles at temperature; too heavy and the transfer is incomplete.
- A transfer machine. A rotary machine with an oil-heated drum for fabric in the roll, or a flat press for garments.
- A heat press for samples. A small flat press lets you check colour on the actual fabric before committing to a full run.
- Finishing. Depending on the product, cutting, sewing or a final steaming step.
Specify the printer, the paper and the transfer machine together. If they are bought separately, the settings rarely match and the colour drifts between one machine and the next.
